The Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection is now requiring Norwegian power companies to provide training on electrical safety in secondary schools. Elsikkerhet Norge has developed the educational material for power companies Eidsiva, Lyse, Helgeland Kraft and Haugaland Kraft which will be offering the training sessions.

VR technology is used as part of the teaching. In close partnership with Elsikkerhet Norge, Design Container has produced a virtual home in which users are able to move around the rooms to identify fire hazards. The idea is to make users identify various mistakes in each room. Every time the user identifies a mistake, information pops up to tell the user how to minimise the fire hazard. The solution provides information about fire safety and is a perfect learning tool for children. The training involves one hour of theory before users are asked to start applying the VR solution as a practical tool to make the experience more realistic.

“We are seeing that different solutions such as VR are suitable for teaching purposes and are becoming increasingly widespread. The reason that VR is good as a teaching tool is that it offers a very realistic and practical way of learning,” says Project Manager Martin Fjogstad from Design Container.

This has been a partnership between several of the companies in the Artisti Group. Design Container has been responsible for the educational solution, design and the VR solution itself while Artisti Profil has supplied the VR goggles and other physical equipment.
